Relaxed documentary Wedding photographer at Lodge Farm
There’s something about early spring that just feels full of promise. March weddings have a certain energy – you can feel everything’s starting to bloom again. Emily and Luke’s day at Lodge Farm in Cundall captured that feeling beautifully. As a relaxed documentary wedding photographer, this kind of day is right up my street.
Lodge Farm is tucked away in the Yorkshire countryside, with old brick barns, wide-open skies, and space for everyone to truly unwind. Emily and Luke wanted a laid-back day with no stress – and that’s how it was. Emily might be the calmest bride I’ve ever photographed, no joke. There were no nerves, just pure light beaming out of her from cheek to cheek. Luke however got pretty emosh! He laughed all day and wasn’t afraid to let a few tears fall when it mattered.
The morning had a lovely rhythm to it. While Emily got ready at the venue with her bridesmaids, Luke headed to the pub for a pre-wedding Guinness. Alfie, their golden retriever, of course, was there with him. Fully part of the groom crew and, and without a doubt, the star of the day.
Alfie the Show-Stealer
During the ceremony (Emily walked up the Aisle to Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Songbird’ – Love it!), Alfie took on ring bearer duties—and absolutely launched himself up the aisle. No hesitation, just full commitment. I just about caught the moment, and it remains one of my favourite images from the day.
Afterwards, the courtyard buzzed with conversation and laughter. Because we kept the group shots simple, people had time to relax. That also meant I could focus on what I love most – capturing candid wedding moments as they happen.
Later, we took a quiet stroll for some couple portraits. No staging, no pressure. Just Emily and Luke being themselves. Naturally, Alfie joined us again. He popped into the portraits and made them even more special – for any dog lovers out there, they really are part of the family!
As the evening drew in, the speeches brought more tears (Luke’s mum this time), and the band kicked things into gear. The band – Bandit (Tailored Entertainment) kept the dancefloor packed. Meanwhile, the drinks kept flowing and the dance moves were coming out in full force! Everything about the celebration felt true to who they are – easy, genuine, and full of warmth.
