I get it, you’re worried about being bossed around and being forced into unnatural poses whilst everyone else is off enjoying themselves, leaving you feeling cheated on your own wedding day.

I’m here to tell you you don’t have to feel like that! As a real documentary wedding photographer I capture the day as it is, without interfering or distracting, I’m there to capture the day as a guest would see things. I capture the joyful moments, blending in and getting in close to find unusual compositions, different layers and humorous moments.

magical moments captured.

My documentary style approach

Can I tell you a story?

I’ve attended a fair few weddings in my time and one thing that I found at many of them was that the couples were hardly seen throughout the day, they weren’t chatting with their friends or loved ones, they were off for hours having pictures taken. This took them out of the moment…. it almost felt like a magazine shoot – I don’t know about you but I’d pass on that one thanks!

Right from the start of my wedding photography career, I’ve always wanted to emphasise that you wedding day is about the story – not fabricating moments. I find joy and excitement from capturing weddings in this way as I feel that this where the magic of photography lies.

1.

it’s all about you

your individuality makes you stand out

No two weddings are the same.

The more you embrace yourselves, the more special and unique your images will be and no-one can ever replicate that. I strive for those imperfectly perfect moments.

2.

A guest’s eye’s view

capturing the day from the inside out

You want your album to reflect how it felt to actually be at the wedding – cutting those shapes on the dance floor, scoffing the canapés or whatever other mischief you might’ve been up to!

So you’ll find me mingling in to capture those un-staged precious moments, whether that’s on the dance floor or at the reception – I’ve often been mistaken for a guest!

3.

Relax.

and enjoy your day

I’m with you all the way

My previous couples have often described me as super laid back, it just seems to be my default setting! But most importantly, I’m passionate about great photography – taking inspiration from street photographers and photo journalists such as Alex Webb and Martin Parr, I just love the unpredictability of a wedding, it’s like a playground to me!

If you’re after a bossy photographer, then I’m sorry, I’m not your guy.

But if you want to relax, let go and have a good old knees up, then I could very well be your match!

Theo was amazing. He is such a lovely laid back guy. Everyone at the wedding commented on him and asked if he was a guest as he was so friendly and social . Absolutely love his style of how he captured the day! Made what some may think as stressful a breeze from booking straight through to getting the final shots! 100% would recommend!

Theo is everything you could want in a wedding photographer, if what you want is a lovely, friendly, genuine person that takes beautiful, warm, honest photos!

I even had guests comment after the day how lovely my photographer had been. And though lovely is great, what you truly need is a talented photographer, and he just so happens to be that too! I couldnt be happier with the photos.

Neither of us like having our photos taken and didn’t want a series of awkward staged photos. We have often found formal, staged photographs to be intrusive, time consuming and, ultimately, disappointing so we were able to discuss this with Theo and we felt very relaxed to find that this, old fashioned, style of wedding photography is not what he does. His creative style of photography, unobtrusive and discreet, enabled him to take some wonderful candid shots.

Throughout the ceremony, wedding breakfast and celebrations into the evening, Theo was very thorough but considerate at all times. He was friendly and welcoming, all our guests and the venue staff loved him and he was able to catch people at their most relaxed and natural looking, which was just what we wanted.

The collection of photographs, that he sent as a gallery, are the best photographs we have ever seen of us, everyone looks so happy and relaxed, they reflect the day itself perfectly and we couldn’t have hoped for more.

“What a lovely chap!”

I like to arrive around an hour or 2 before your ceremony to get those ‘getting ready’ shots, this helps you all to feel comfortable around me and captures the buzz and excitement of you all together. I’ll be there through to the first dance and a fair few after that too – I love the energy of the dancefloor!

Got Questions?

I may well have done, but honestly, for me it’s all about the people at your wedding, if it wasn’t for those in attendance there’d be less stories to tell. I have photographed some lovely venues, whether they are churches, barns or tipis – they all seem to suit and shape the personality of the wedding.

Me! – I have my own unique vision of the world influenced by past travels, life experiences and street photography. I’ve always been fascinated with what can be created with the constant barrage of visual elements that the world presents – I like to capture the mystical, the unpredictable the magic. That means nothing is staged, everything is true and authentic to the moment.

Documentary or ‘Reportage’ wedding photography is basically just a fancy way of saying I don’t direct or stage images. I’m like a reporter at your wedding telling the story without fabricating it. Like I’ve said before, I blend in like a guest so I can capture unique images that stand out. I’m relaxed and unobtrusive – this is key to how I gain my results.

Yes, I do, in fact there’s nothing I love more than an intimate wedding and I consider it to be a massive privilege to capture such an event! Please contact me here for a personalised quote.

The short answer is no – I believe, in true documentary style, that an event should be captured in the lighting conditions that are already present. However, I do own a small flash that I may use for emergencies or very low-light situations.

I shoot with 2 high end professional cameras.  Every image you receive is hand edited by myself, that includes – colour correction, cropping and converting the images in my own signature style.

I deliver my images in a mixture of colour and black and white according to what I feel is right aesthetically – black and white tends to lend itself to more emotional moments, whereas colour lends itself to beautiful colour combinations between peoples outfits for instance.

I live in Todmorden – West Yorkshire, in the beautiful Calder Valley, but travel all over the UK – if your planning to do something abroad, I’m game for that too!

I take the upmost care with each of your individual images and therefore, I won’t rush them through for the sake of it.  I take pride in my work and want you and your family to have the best possible images to cherish for years to come.  My average turnaround is about 6-8 weeks on average but this can be longer depending on how far into the wedding season we are.  You will receive updates and will be kept in the loop with my progress.

Absolutely! I usually take about 5-6 group photos (with the aid of an usher to group people together) at every wedding. I do suggest keeping groups to a minimum so that they don’t take up too much of your day and intrude into the time I could be spending taking the natural photographs my couples book me for.

Allow 2-3 minutes for each standard sized group. Bride and Groom images will usually take around 15-20 minutes during a quiet period of the day usually just before sunset when the light is golden and magical. You can see some examples here.

Yes. Both Public Liability and Professional Indemnity.
